PPWR & packaging

PPWR is coming. Your caterer is not automatically ready.

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation hits trays, take-away and reuse systems in contract catering. If it is not in the contract, you will pay for it later in the price.

PPWR is not a communications exercise. It is a set of reuse, recyclate and reporting duties that land in the kitchen and at the till. In contract catering, packaging sits in three flows: on-site service (plates, trays), grab-and-go, and events.

Most specifications still talk about ‘sustainable materials’ without a measurement point. That invites green claims. Ask: which SKUs fall under reuse? Who owns the wash logistics? How is waste reported per outlet?

Put PPWR in the contract as an indexable cost line with a transition plan, not as a vague CSR paragraph. And measure it: packaging cost per cover, reusable share, and variance against the plan. That is exactly the kind of line that belongs in Vecta — next to food cost, not in a Word annex.
